Aesthetic Treatments in Brookline, MA

Facial rejuvenation from clinicians who work with facial anatomy every day.

The Basics

Understanding Aesthetic Treatments in Brookline

Muscle, skin and the bone beneath

Aesthetic treatments in Brookline, MA at Smile Brookline are delivered by dentists, which is less unusual than it first sounds. A dentist works with the muscles, bone and soft tissue of the face every clinical day: the masseter and temporalis that close the jaw, the lip and cheek muscles that shape expression, and the bone that supports all of it. Dental facial aesthetics is an extension of that anatomy rather than a separate discipline attached to a dental practice.

The category covers three kinds of change. Expression lines, such as the frown lines between the brows and the crow's feet beside the eyes, respond to precise muscle relaxation. Loss of lift and muscle tone through the mid-face and jawline responds to needle-free muscle stimulation combined with collagen-building heat. Skin quality, meaning texture, pores, crepey skin and uneven tone, responds to radiofrequency delivered with or without microneedles. Most patients have some of each, which is why the consultation starts with the face rather than with a device.

Every energy device used in this practice is made by BTL and is FDA-cleared for its stated use. The FDA overview of aesthetic devices is a sensible starting point for anyone comparing options, and BTL Aesthetics publishes the clinical background for each platform. Where the concern is a softening jawline and early jowls, treatment is planned around the muscle as much as the skin. Where the jaw muscles are the problem rather than the lines, TMJ treatment is the right door. And where the smile itself needs work, cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics are planned together, because the lower face is one system.

Start from the concern, not the device. If the lines only appear when you frown or squint, muscle relaxation is the answer and nothing else will do that job. If the face has lost lift, the muscle needs strengthening rather than relaxing, and Emface is the only treatment here that does it. If the skin surface is the problem, the three EXION applicators divide the work by depth and by whether needles are involved. The EXION treatments sub-hub compares them side by side. A jowls treatment plan usually combines muscle toning with skin tightening. Jaw tension and clenching are a different problem, treated with Botox for TMJ at a therapeutic dose rather than a cosmetic one. Where two treatments apply, they are sequenced at the consultation so each supports the next, and you see the full plan and figure before committing to any of it.

The Smile Brookline Difference

Why Choose Smile Brookline for Aesthetic Treatments in Brookline, MA

Beacon Street since 1992

Dr. Sara Stock, DDS delivers every aesthetic treatment personally. The practice has been on Beacon Street since 1992, and she has planned cosmetic cases since 1989, all of it inside the anatomy these devices act on: masseter and temporalis, the muscles of expression, and the bone beneath them. Because Smile Brookline is an airway-focused practice, a face is read for function before it is treated for appearance, so a heavy masseter from nighttime clenching is not mistaken for a jawline that needs toning. The whole-health model behind that approach is set out on our about page.

  • Facial Anatomy Every Day

Applicators and injections are placed by a clinician who works with facial muscle and bone daily.

  • Airway-Informed Screening

Clenching, bite and breathing are assessed so overworked jaw muscles are not treated as a cosmetic problem.

  • Beacon Street Since 1992

Over three decades in the same Brookline practice, with the same clinician planning and delivering your care.

  • Complimentary Consultation

Aesthetic consultations are free. You leave with a written plan and prices before any treatment is booked.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Aesthetic Treatments

How much do aesthetic treatments cost in Brookline?
Prices are set by treatment and published where they are fixed. Emface courses run $1,375 to $2,750 depending on the area, and Exion RF microneedling with exosome serum is $1,500. Botox is priced by unit, and Exion Face and Exion Clear are quoted at the consultation because session numbers vary from face to face. The consultation itself is complimentary.
Are aesthetic consultations really free?
Yes. Aesthetic consultations at Smile Brookline are complimentary, which is a deliberate exception to the practice's paid dental exams. Dr. Sara Stock, DDS examines the face, listens to what you would change, and writes up a plan with prices. There is no obligation to book, and no treatment is carried out at the consultation visit itself.
Is cosmetic treatment covered by insurance?
No. Cosmetic treatment is not covered by dental or medical insurance, and we do not submit claims for it. Financing is available through Cherry monthly payment plans, with applications at pay.withcherry.com/smilebrookline, and major credit cards are accepted for every aesthetic treatment. Current offers for new patients are listed on our new patient page.
Can aesthetic treatments be combined?
Most can, in the right order. Emface muscle toning treats muscle and collagen at depth, so it pairs naturally with an EXION applicator that refines the surface. Botox can be added once the toning course is complete, since relaxing a muscle you are trying to strengthen makes no sense. Sequencing is decided at the consultation rather than treatment by treatment.
Is there any downtime after aesthetic treatments?
Little to none for most of them. Botox, Emface, Exion Face and Exion Clear allow you to return to work the same day, with mild warmth or pinkness that settles within hours. RF microneedling is the exception, with one to two days of redness similar to a light sunburn and a week of extra sun sensitivity. Daily sunscreen is advised after every energy-based treatment.
Why have facial aesthetics at a dental practice?
Because the face is the dentist's working territory. Dental facial aesthetics is delivered by clinicians who assess the masseter, temporalis and lip muscles at every appointment and understand how they sit on the underlying bone. That anatomy knowledge changes where applicators are positioned and where injections are placed. It also means jaw function is checked before appearance is treated.
Do I need Botox for lines or Botox for jaw tension?
It depends on what you are trying to change. Cosmetic Botox dosing targets the small muscles that crease the brow and the corners of the eyes. Jaw tension, morning soreness and clenching involve the much larger masseter and are treated on the TMJ side of the practice at a different dose. Many patients need one or the other, and a few benefit from both.
How long do aesthetic treatment results last?
Between three months and about a year, depending on the treatment. Botox holds for three to four months. Emface results last around twelve months with one or two maintenance sessions a year. Collagen built by the EXION applicators is long term, though ageing continues, so most patients return for maintenance. Expected timelines are set out on each treatment page.
